The Origin of the Pamunkey Baptist Association
In 1900
The PBA was established in 1900 by churches serving the African American communities in King William county. Leading the effort was the Reverend Samuel Brenton Holmes who served as the pastor of The Third Union Baptist Church. Ministries birthed by the PBA are:
1) Literary Union ... formerly the Church School Convention ... Circa 1901
2) Division of Layman ... Circa 1910
3) Missionary Women's and Education Convention ... Circa 1918
4) Division of Clergy ... Circa 1960
5) Division of Youth ... Circa 1950
The PBA is still active today. Providing support for member churches and to all in the county.
